Respiratory Therapist Job in Charlottesville, VA

University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a 13-week contract assignment in Charlottesville, VA. You will work a night shift schedule of 3x12 hours, with every other weekend required. The role offers $2,142 weekly pay.

About the Role

You will treat adult and geriatric patient populations across multiple service teams, including Surgical/Neuro, Heart and Vascular, Medical, and Unit Rotation. You may float between sections on occasion as needed. Working within a multidisciplinary team environment, you will manage mechanical ventilation, BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula therapy. Additional responsibilities include bronchoscopy support, arterial blood gas interpretation, intubation assistance, tracheostomy care, and nitric oxide administration.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
• Virginia state license (pending license accepted if temporary license obtainable before start date; must hold another state license to qualify for temporary)
• BLS certification
• 4 years of adult critical care experience (candidates with 2+ years considered)
• Trauma Level II experience
• Epic charting system experience
• Strong communication and critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS certification
• ACCS certification
• Trauma Level I experience

Schedule Details

You must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays; time off around Christmas cannot be approved. The assignment runs for 91 days, with a start date of November 23, 2026.
