PCU RN Job in Asheville, NC

You will work as an RN on the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) in the E Heart Tower at Mission Hospital. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a start date of September 21, 2026.

About the Role

You will care for post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including those recovering from open heart procedures (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. You will also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block. Your patient ratio will be 1:5 per RN. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds.

You will perform epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management using medications such as phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine. You will use Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lifts. The EMR system is Cerner.

Schedule and Requirements

This is a day shift position working 3x12 hours, with shifts running 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM. You will earn $2,080 weekly. A minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week schedule period is required. Flexibility to work holidays is required. There are no on-call responsibilities.

Float assignments may include stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6-7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6) as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Stepdown experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• ACLS and BLS certifications
• Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience within the last year preferred
• CVICU experience preferred

Other Details

Dress code is all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs. Day shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUC.
