PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Job Details:

• Work 3x12-hour shifts per week
• On-call required once every 6 weeks
• 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period
• Self-scheduling type
• Patient ratios of 3:1 on days, nights, and weekends
• May care for low acuity ICU patients or high acuity telemetry patients on unit
• Care for adult and geriatric patient populations
• Unit features in-room continuous cardiac and vital sign monitoring
• Manage cardiac IV infusions including ICU level infusions such as Levophed, Cardene, Neosynephrine, and Insulin drips requiring frequent titrations and continuous monitoring
• Care for patients post-TNK administration requiring frequent neurological assessments, patients with high O2 requirements, pericardial drains, temporary pacemakers, STEMI post cath, EKOS treatment for DVT, and snakebite post-antivenom administration
• Patient care is RN driven with supporting role from PCTs
• Independently consult with medical management team regarding changes in patient condition
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and Pharmacy
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of experience in service line required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Travel experience preferred
• Altera charting experience preferred, not required
• Required skills include arterial line management, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line care/management, telemetry monitoring, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, tracheostomy care/management, and wound care among others
