PCU RN Job in Asheville, NC

Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC is seeking an RN for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a 40-bed cardiovascular stepdown unit on the E4 floor of the E Heart Tower. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning June 15, 2026, working 3x12 night shifts (6:45 PM–7:15 AM) at $2,102.40 weekly.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care with a 1:5 patient ratio, supporting post-operative and medical cardiology patients. Your responsibilities include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV medication administration, and cardiac drip management using medications such as phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine.

Patient Population

Primary patients include those recovering from cardiovascular and vascular surgery: open heart surgery, CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. You will also care for overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses including heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.

Staffing & Schedule

Each shift is staffed with 13 RNs plus a charge RN, PCTs, and HUC support. A minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period is required. There are no on-call requirements, but flexibility to work holidays is expected. You may float to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical-surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding as needed.

Required Experience & Certifications

• Stepdown unit experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Equipment proficiency: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and patient lifts
• EMR system: Cerner

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience within the last year
• CVICU experience

Dress code is all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs.
