CVOR Technologist Job in Altoona, PA

West Central – UPMC Altoona is hiring a Surgical Tech to join the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Operating Room (CVOR) team. This is a 90-day travel assignment beginning September 14, 2026.

Assignment Details

Your Role

You will prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions prior to procedures. You will assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment and verify proper working order. During procedures, you will pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and sponge or suction the operative site under surgeon supervision. You will count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments throughout each procedure to maintain accountability. You will prepare patients for surgery including washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites. You will assist the surgical team with donning sterile gowns and gloves, support specimen preparation and disposal for laboratory analysis, and ensure all medications are properly labeled and handed to the surgeon per established policies. After procedures, you will assist with patient transport to recovery and clean and restock the operating room.

Qualifications

• Allied Health Professional credential (Surgical Tech)
• Minimum 2 years of surgical tech experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) certification
• Compliance with PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73
• Compliance with Pennsylvania House Bill 81 requirements for surgical technologist practice
