Job Details:

• Night shift position with 36 or 48 hours available per week
• Every other weekend requirement with 2 out of 3 winter holidays required
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
• Longer assignment available through January 2, 2027
• Maximum 40 hours of time off per 13-week contract; no time off approved around July 4th
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 in acute care and 3:1 in the Thoracic Intermediate Care Unit (TIMU)
• Care for adult and geriatric patients post open heart surgeries including CABG, valve repair and replacement, and septal wall defect procedures
• Care for post thoracic surgery patients including wedge resection, lobe resection, biopsy, lung transplant, esophagectomy, and Nissen fundoplication
• Manage revascularization therapy patients including bypasses, endarterectomy, TPA, nurse-driven heparin therapies, and carotid endarterectomies
• Manage patients with acute heart failure requiring aggressive diuresis
• Operate and monitor special equipment including arterial lines, chest tubes, mediastinal tubes, Jackson Pratt drains, bladder scanner, ECG machine, GE portable monitors, and epidural/patient-controlled analgesia pumps
• Perform aggressive insulin management using Glucomander system
• Administer and manage nurse-driven drips including heparin, ketamine, and nitroglycerin
• Perform ECG independently and manage urinary retention protocols
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias with telemetry monitoring skills required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Must adhere to facility float policy and float within scope of practice as needed
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Virginia nursing license required; pending license accepted
• Nursys verification required with submission
