Med Surg RN Job in Wilmington, NC

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Rapid Response is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med Surg Neuro position in Wilmington, NC. This is a night shift contract role working 3x12 hour shifts.

Position Overview

You will care for adult patients with neuro surgical procedures and neurological diagnoses on a 36-bed unit with a daily census of 36. Your patient ratio will be 1:5–6. The unit uses Pyxis, SBAR, and Epic systems. Navy scrubs are required.

Schedule & Time Off

• Night shift: 3x12 hour shifts per week (36 or 48 hours weekly, depending on preference)
• 12–16 weekend shifts required per contract; the unit is flexible and willing to discuss
• Up to 7 days of requested time off are auto-approved (no holidays)
• No RTO during the first week; you must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Blocked scheduling may be accommodated by request
• Manager sets the schedule

Responsibilities

You will float within or near the facility as needed. Required skills include CVA management, isolation precautions and PPE, telemetry, peripheral line care and management, non-invasive airway management, nasal cannula, and starting and maintaining IVs. You will collaborate with IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary support.

Requirements

• Current RN license (NC or compact license accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of experience
• Neuro experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• NIH and CPI certifications preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Contract Details

Contract length: 13–26 weeks. You will receive 2 orientation shifts on the unit following hospital-based orientation. Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters.

Compensation

Weekly pay: $1,911. Start date: September 21, 2026.
