Med Surg RN Job in Wilmington, NC

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Rapid Response is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Medical Surgical unit. You'll work nights on a 4x12 schedule, earning $2,355 weekly for a 91-day contract starting September 28, 2026.

The Role

This Neuro-focused med surg position emphasizes general medicine and neurological patient care. You will manage a patient ratio of 1:6 and receive 24 hours of unit orientation. The manager creates block schedules, and you'll be part of a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team with potential call-in requirements during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters. Float duty applies—travelers float first.

Requirements

• Current RN license
• Minimum 2 years of experience (first-time travelers accepted)
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must pass EKG testing before start date
• Neuro experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience and willingness to learn the charge nurse role preferred

Core Skills & Responsibilities

You'll manage CVA patients, interpret and manage dysrhythmias, apply isolation precautions and PPE, provide telemetry care, administer nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management, maintain peripheral lines, and start and maintain IVs. Experience with med/surg fundamentals is essential.

Schedule & Unit Details

Night shift hours with 36 or 48 hours per week accepted. Weekend requirement is 5 to 6 weekend shifts per contract (every other weekend). Navy Blue scrubs are required and not provided. The unit uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems.

Support & Setting

You'll serve adults and geriatric patients with interdisciplinary support from IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.
