Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg Oncology

Job Details:

• Monday through Friday schedule with a weekend requirement every six weeks for approximately two hours
• 1:1 staffing ratio with an average daily census of 40 patients and approximately 7 visits per day
• 14-room unit serving adult and geriatric patient populations
• Care for oncology and non-oncology patients including chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy infusion patients
• Patient diagnoses include bladder/kidney cancer, brain cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, ear/nose/throat cancers, leukemia/blood dyscrasias, liver cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma/non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian/uterine cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer
• Administer chemotherapy including continuous infusion, IV push, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy; manage and dispose of cytotoxic spills and monitor chemotherapy administration
• Perform bone marrow transplant-related care including administration of bone marrow, CAR-T, graft-versus-host disease management, and stem cell therapies
• IV therapy and infusion skills required including accessing and managing ports, central line blood draws, central line/implanted line care, PICC line care, infusion pump management, and administration of blood and blood products
• Medication administration includes antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen
• Manage oncologic emergencies including acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and sepsis
• Pain management includes IV push narcotic agents and transdermal patches
• Professional skills required include care coordination, colostomy/ileostomy management, Foley catheter insertion and management, isolation precautions/PPE, neutropenic precautions, phlebotomy, telephone triage, tracheostomy care, and wound care
• Psychosocial care includes advanced directives and patient/family education and support
• Symptom management includes alteration in skin and mucous membranes, altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
• Post-surgical care required
• Special equipment: CADD pump
• Medication system: Pyxis
• Epic charting experience required
• Work settings required: Infusion Center and Outpatient Oncology
• Required certifications: BLS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC); ACLS and OCN preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
• Travel experience required
• Scrub color: Navy blue
