PCU RN Job in San Antonio, TX

You will work as an RN on a 32-bed Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) located on the 5th floor of the North Tower at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. This is a 13-week contract position with a start date of September 23, 2026.

Shift and Schedule

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekly pay: $1,674
• Rotating weekends required
• No on-call responsibilities

Patient Care and Staffing

• Patient ratio of 1:4, sometimes 1:5
• Night shift team includes 1 charge nurse, 2–3 PCTs, and 7 RNs on the floor
• Float assignments to Med-Surg, Med-Surg PCU, and Emergency Department holds as needed

Clinical Focus and Experience

You will provide care for post-surgical patients across a range of procedures including bowel surgeries, pulmonary procedures, mastectomies, modified radical neck dissections, and thyroidectomies. You will manage complex equipment and devices including walkers, kangaroo pumps, PCAs, chest tubes, ostomies, PEG tubes, NG tubes, and foley catheters. Tracheostomy and laryngectomy care, as well as management of JP drains, biliary drains, abdominal and chest tube drains, TPN, and tube feeds are core responsibilities. You will provide telemetry monitoring and assist with collaborative interdisciplinary care.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Current RN license
• BLS and ACLS/ALS certifications required
• PCU experience preferred
• Tracheostomy experience preferred
• Strong time management and critical thinking skills
• Team player with adaptable personality

Systems and Environment

You will work with the Meditech EMR system. Day shift includes a 10:30 AM multidisciplinary rounds meeting. Navy blue scrubs are required.
