Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 3x12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
• Patient ratios: typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• 20-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patient populations
• Must float within skillset to other PCU or medical/surgical level of care units as needed
• Epic charting system experience required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Active Virginia state or compact RN license required
• Required clinical skills include: cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, emergency response, IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, ventilator care for chronic trach patients, medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration), respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, BiPAP), Rapid Response and Code team activation, isolation precautions, and telemetry management across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Equipment used includes: ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC line, and MML
• IV drips managed: Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
• Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on the unit
• Tele sitting implemented to support additional Patient Care Tech coverage
• LPN and CNA support available on the unit
• Interdisciplinary support includes: physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary
