About this role

Memorial Hospital - Bakersfield is seeking an RN for its Emergency Department. You will work 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week, with a start date of September 28, 2026, for a 91-day assignment. Weekly pay is $2,201.

Shift Details

  • Night shift position (7:00 PM–7:00 AM preferred, with other times available: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 11:00 AM–11:00 PM, 3:00 PM–3:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend requirement; 4 weekend shifts per month
  • No block scheduling — you must be flexible with your schedule
  • No on-call requirement, though you may be placed on standby for low census; a 30-minute response time is required if called in
  • Float requirement within the ER only; you will be first to float
  • Work holidays unless the holiday falls during your contracted time off

Role Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience required; no first-time travelers accepted
  • Experience with both pediatric and adult patients (approximately 50% of patient population is pediatric)
  • Triage experience mandatory
  • Experience with high-volume environments (approximately 325 patient visits per day across both ERs)
  • Required to float to Pediatric ER as needed
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS, NIHSS

Facility Details

  • Adult ER: 36 treatment areas, serves as STEMI, CVA, and burn receiving center
  • Pediatric ER: 12 treatment areas plus 8 fast track pods, designated pediatric receiving center
  • Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, Pediatric ER 1:4, Adult ER 1:4, procedural sedation 1:1
  • Charting: Cerner; Telemetry: Philips system with monitor technician on unit
  • Scrub color: Navy blue for RNs; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets permitted
  • During orientation, you will complete a basic EKG interpretation test; critical care RNs receive additional curriculum including STEMI and procedural sedation content

Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, substance abuse, and minor walk-in complaints.
