Med Surg RN Job in Saint Louis, MO

You'll work as a Registered Nurse on the 6900 GI/GU unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Nursing in Saint Louis, Missouri. This is a 16-week contract assignment with a 3x12 night shift schedule, offering 36 guaranteed hours per week. Every other weekend is required; no on-call duties.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of med/surg nursing experience; travel experience required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Epic charting system experience
• Must pass Relias EKG exam with competency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• First-time travelers and local candidates within 75 miles not accepted

Clinical Skills & Competencies:

You must be proficient in med/surg nursing, telemetry monitoring (remote centralized system), and management of ostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, feeding tubes, blood products, central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IV care. Phlebotomy skills are required. You'll administer drips including heparin, lidocaine (pain only), sodium bicarbonate, bivalirudin, and amiodarone (stable, non-titrated doses, occasionally). You'll manage PCAs, epidurals, and CBIs with various irrigation solutions.

Patient Population & Unit Details:

The unit is a high-turnover surgical service with patient ratios of 1:4–6. You'll care for patients with colorectal, bladder, and urological conditions, including those undergoing colostomy, ileostomy, colon resection, and TURP procedures. Medical overflow patients are also admitted to the unit. Float within the service line is required.
