PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Job Details:

• Self-scheduling with 6 weekend shifts required during each 6-week schedule period
• Patient ratio of 4:1 for days, nights, and weekends
• Float to other units and/or campuses as needed based on census concerns, only to units where competencies have been demonstrated
• 36 orientation hours required
• Care for adult patients with cardiac diagnoses including chest pain, arrhythmias (e.g., A-fib, intermittent VT), and patients with medical history of cardiac disease requiring telemetry monitoring
• Support patients undergoing heart catheterization, nuclear stress tests, cardioversion, ablation, and pacemaker/ICD implant or upgrade
• Manage various cardiac drips including heparin, cardizem, nitroglycerin, and insulin with maximum titration rates
• Utilize telemetry monitors and Pyxis charting system
• Perform and assist with skills including cardiac telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, central line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols, BiPAP/CPAP management, tracheostomy care, wound care, and more
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response teams, and social services
• 1+ year of experience required
• 1 year minimum experience with Epic EMR required
• Strong cardiac telemetry experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Community hospital, LTAC, and trauma experience preferred
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
