PCU Registered Nurse Job in Winston Salem, NC

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Rapid Response is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role offers 12-hour night shifts with a 91-day assignment starting September 28, 2026. You will earn $1,903 weekly working 3x12 shifts.

Role Overview

You will care for patients in a PCU that functions with ICU-level acuity. Patient ratios are 1:3–4, and you may float to the sister ICCU unit as needed. Every other weekend is required. No block scheduling is available. Strong experience with vasoactive drips, arterial lines, and dysrhythmia recognition and treatment is essential.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Administer and titrate vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, and peripheral lines, including PICC line care
• Monitor telemetry with bedside and remote backup capability
• Provide non-invasive airway management including external CPAP/BIPAP and high-flow nasal cannula
• Manage tracheostomies and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Administer blood products, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocols
• Recognize and treat dysrhythmias
• Care for post-operative patients from GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and ortho surgeries
• Support patients with respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-rapid response admissions

Requirements

• Current NC or Compact nursing license
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• EKG testing required prior to start
• First-time travelers accepted

Clinical Environment

The PCU serves adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. You will use Pyxis and Epic charting systems (Epic experience preferred). Navy, white, or combination scrubs are acceptable. Only one pressor drip per patient; additional drips require ICU transfer.
