PCU RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will deliver direct patient care on a 3x12 night shift schedule, working either 6:30 AM–7:00 PM or 6:30 PM–7:00 AM with cyclic scheduling and every-other-weekend rotation.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Manage a patient assignment with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Care for patients with diagnoses including heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
• Titrate medications such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• Independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Operate and troubleshoot CPAP equipment
• Float to ICU as appropriate based on your experience and unit needs

Unit Environment

• Fast-paced setting with high volume of admits and discharges
• Charge nurse present on each shift who carries a full patient assignment
• Nurse aides and patient care technicians available at a 1:10 ratio
• Electronic charting using EPIC

Onboarding

• One 12-hour orientation shift in the department
• Must pass an open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation

Requirements

• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Valid driver's license at time of application
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments

Assignment Details

• Duration: 126 days
• Start date: September 14, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,384.64
• Holiday requirements: 1 major and 1 minor
