About this role

You'll work as an RN on the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) in the E Heart Tower at Mission Hospital, caring for patients recovering from cardiac and vascular surgery. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting September 21, 2026.

Your Role

You'll manage a patient ratio of 1:5 and provide care to post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including those recovering from open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomy. You'll also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with conditions such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage epidurals, chest tubes, and tube feedings
  • Administer and monitor cardiac drips including phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine
  • Operate Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and lift equipment
  • Document in Cerner EMR

Unit Staffing

The 40-bed unit operates with consistent staffing: day shift includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUC; night shift includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC. You may float to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), medical/surgical units (1:6–7 ratios), or ER inpatient holding as needed.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Stepdown and telemetry experience required
  • Prior experience with cardiac surgery and vascular surgery populations preferred
  • CVICU experience preferred

Schedule and Expectations

You'll work three 12-hour day shifts per week at $2,102.40 weekly. A minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week period is required, and you must be flexible for holiday work. There are no on-call responsibilities. Dress code is all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs.
