PCU RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking an RN for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will provide direct patient care in a fast-paced stepdown environment with consistent volume and frequent admits and discharges.

• Shift: 3x12-hour nights, either 6:30 AM–7:00 PM or 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
• Duration: 91 days
• Start date: November 9, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,370

Your responsibilities will include:

• Care for patients with diagnoses including heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
• Titrate drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• Independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Operate and troubleshoot CPAP equipment
• Manage a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4
• Float to ICU if your experience supports it

Unit details: A charge nurse is present on each shift and maintains a full patient assignment. Nurse aides and patient care technicians are available at a 1:10 ratio to support your workflow. The facility uses EPIC for charting.

Requirements and expectations:

• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Pass an open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during your 12-hour orientation shift
• Cyclic scheduling with every-other-weekend requirement
• Fulfill 1 major and 1 minor holiday requirement
• Valid driver's license required at time of application
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments
