Med Surg RN Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract in Medical-Surgical nursing. You will work 3x12 night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) with a guaranteed 36 hours per week and earn $2,402.64 weekly. The assignment begins October 5, 2026.

About the Role

You will provide post-surgical care in a 40-bed Post Surgical Care Unit that serves as a step-down from PACU. Your patients will include pre- and post-surgical adult and geriatric cases with an average length of stay of 2–3 days. The unit maintains 90–95% occupancy during the week and averages 10–15 admissions per day, with the highest volume on day and PM shifts. On nights, your nurse-to-patient ratio will be 1:5 to 1:7.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care along a continuum of pre- and post-operative recovery
• Float to all inpatient units as needed
• Multi-task and prioritize care based on acuity
• Work collaboratively within the nursing team
• Chart in Epic EMR and operate Rovers for medication scanning and Alaris pumps

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN License
• BLS Certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2+ years of Med Surg experience with recent hospital experience
• Trauma Level II experience
• Prior travel nursing experience
• Epic EMR charting experience
• Associate Degree or Certificate in Nursing; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Schedule Details

Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required. You are contract-eligible for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours, which can be used in hour increments as needed. Any color scrubs are acceptable.
