PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract in our 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll work 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM on a 3x12 schedule with guaranteed 48 hours per week. Every other weekend and holiday are required.

About the Role

This is a fast-paced intermediate care unit with heavy telemetry monitoring. You'll manage a 4:1 patient ratio with primary patients and handle insulin drips independently. The patient population includes stable and weaning ventilators/trachs, sepsis, trauma, alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy care, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke. You may float to other inpatient units as needed, typically to higher acuity areas. Low census may result in 36 hours unbillable time; you may be asked to work 4 or 8-hour increments as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience (firm requirement)
• Stepdown, Intermediate, or PCU experience required
• Ventilator and tracheostomy experience required
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• ICU experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Wisconsin RN License, BLS, and ACLS (AHA or ARC) required
• Associate Degree or Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

What We Offer

You'll earn $2,583 weekly. The contract runs 91 days, starting October 5, 2026, with the contract end falling on a Sunday. Wear any color scrubs. This role is ideal for experienced travel nurses who thrive in dynamic, complex care settings and can work independently with strong adaptability.
