PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This 13-week contract runs from September 28, 2026, and offers 3x12 day shifts (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM) with guaranteed 36 hours per week at $2,557 weekly pay.

Role Overview

You will work in a 44-bed intermediate cardiac stepdown unit in a fast-paced, high patient turnover environment. Patient ratio is typically 1:4. You will float to all inpatient units as needed and participate in every other weekend and every other holiday rotation. Low census may occur in 4-hour increments; the contract includes 36 hours of low census unbillable hours.

Patient Population

• Post-op CABG/Valve
• Thoracotomy, vascular, and arrhythmia cases
• CHF and post-procedure catheterization
• Pacemaker, defibrillator, and ablation patients
• Acute chest pain and MI
• Medical/surgical overflow including detox, DKA, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure, and fem-pop bypass

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of strong cardiac experience (Cardiac Step-Down Unit, Intermediate Cardiac, or Cardiac ICU)
• 2 years of IMC/PCU/Telemetry experience
• Experience with Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitro drips
• At least one prior travel assignment
• 1 year of recent EPIC charting experience
• Ability to pass EKG test during the first week of hire
• Wisconsin RN License, BLS, and ACLS (AHA or ARC)
• Associate Degree or Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
