PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract in their 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will work 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM on a 3x12 schedule with guaranteed 36 hours per week. This role offers the opportunity to care for stable and weaning patients across a range of diagnoses in an intermediate care setting with a strong telemetry focus.

Patient Population & Clinical Focus

• Stable and weaning ventilator/tracheostomy patients
• Sepsis, trauma, alcohol detox, and GI bleed cases
• Chest tubes, colostomy/ileostomy care
• Traumatic brain injury (TBI), orthopedic trauma, and spinal cord injury
• Stroke patients and insulin-dependent patients
• Patient ratio of 4:1

Schedule & Staffing

• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Float requirement to all inpatient units as needed, typically to higher acuity units
• Low census available in 4-hour or 8-hour increments
• No on-call or callback requirements
• Contract end day is Sunday

Requirements

• Wisconsin RN License
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience (firm requirement)
• Stepdown, Intermediate, or PCU experience required
• Ventilator and tracheostomy experience required
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
• ICU experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Associate Degree or Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Work Environment

You will work independently in a fast-paced setting, managing patient care, completing tasks in a timely manner, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Any scrub color is acceptable. The contract begins September 28, 2026, and offers weekly pay of $2,583.
