About this role

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 13-week travel assignment beginning September 21, 2026, offering competitive compensation and the opportunity to deliver specialized cardiac care in a dynamic clinical environment.

Position Details

  • Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — 44-bed intermediate cardiac stepdown unit
  • Shift: 3x12-hour nights, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Schedule: Guaranteed 36 hours per week; every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required
  • Float assignments to all inpatient units as needed
  • Low-census adjustments may result in 4- or 8-hour shifts
  • Weekly pay: $2,682

Clinical Environment

The unit maintains a typical patient ratio of 1:4 and serves a fast-paced population with high turnover. Patients include post-operative CABG and valve repairs, thoracotomy, vascular cases, arrhythmia management, congestive heart failure, post-procedure catheterization, pacemaker and defibrillator patients, ablations, acute chest pain and myocardial infarction, and medical-surgical overflow including detoxification, diabetic ketoacidosis, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure, and femoral-popliteal bypass cases.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
  • 1 year of strong cardiac experience in a Cardiac SDU, Intermediate Cardiac, or Cardiac ICU setting
  • 2 years of IMC, PCU, or Telemetry experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitro drips
  • At least one prior travel nursing assignment
  • 1 year of recent EPIC charting experience
  • Ability to pass EKG competency test during the first week of employment
  • Associate Degree or Certificate required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
