Med Surg RN Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week Medical-Surgical assignment in Wausau, Wisconsin. This position offers 3x12-hour night shifts with a weekly pay of $2,402.64 and an ASAP start date of October 5, 2026.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care in a 40-bed Post Surgical Care Unit that delivers post-recovery care following PACU. You will care for pre- and post-surgical adult and geriatric patients along the full continuum of their surgical journey. The unit maintains 90–95% occupancy during the week with an average length of stay of 2–3 days and averages 10–15 admissions per day, with highest volume on day and evening shifts. Night shifts typically operate at lower census.

Scheduling and Hours

You will work 12-hour shifts, either 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with guaranteed 36 hours per week. Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required. The contract includes 36 hours of low census unbillable time that can be taken in hourly increments as needed. Float coverage to all inpatient units is required.

Clinical Details

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 or 1:5 during day and evening shifts, and 1:5 to 1:7 on nights. You must be comfortable multitasking, prioritizing based on acuity, and working collaboratively as part of a team.

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin RN License and BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2+ years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience with recent hospital experience
• Trauma Level II facility experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR charting experience required
• Associate Degree or Certificate in Nursing; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Equipment and Resources

You will use Epic EMR for charting, Rovers for medication scanning, and Alaris infusion pumps. Any color scrubs are accepted.
