About this role

University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Telemetry position on a 12-bed Med Surg/Tele unit in Charlottesville, VA. This is a night shift role with 3x12 scheduling, running for 98 weeks beginning September 28, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,072.

Position Details:

  • Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
  • Patient ratio: 1:4
  • Adult and geriatric patients
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Float policy applies; travelers float before full-time staff

Patient Population: You will care for patients with respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell disease, and cystic fibrosis.

Clinical Skills & Procedures: Experience with chest tubes, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, tracheostomy care, wound care and wound vacs, PCA pumps, Heparin infusions, IV insulin protocols and titration via Glucomander, telemetry monitoring, and isolation precautions is required. You will perform nurse-driven flu vaccination and CAPD procedures.

Equipment: Lift equipment, HOVER mats, chest tubes, trachs, PCA pumps, bladder scanner, and wound vacs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Virginia nursing license (pending licenses accepted)
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience
  • Epic charting system experience
  • BSN preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred

Support Services: IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary support are available.
