About this role

University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Telemetry position on a 27-bed General Medicine Unit in Charlottesville, VA. This is a night shift role on a 4x12 schedule with a weekly pay of $2,487 for a 98-week assignment starting September 28, 2026.

Position Details:

  • Night shift, 4x12 block scheduling
  • 36 or 48 hours available per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
  • Patient ratios: 5:1 nights and weekends

Patient Population:

You will care for adult and geriatric patients across a variety of disease processes including respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal conditions. Common diagnoses include respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis.

Required Clinical Skills:

  • Chest tube management
  • Heparin protocols and nurse-driven heparin infusions
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Isolation precautions and PPE protocols
  • IV insulin protocols and insulin drips via Glucomander
  • PCA pump management
  • Renal failure management
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Tracheostomy care and management
  • Wound care and wound vac operation
  • CAPD procedures

Equipment and Support:

You will work with lift equipment, HOVER mats, chest tubes, trachs, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and wound vacs. Interdisciplinary support is available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretaries.

Qualifications:

  • Current Virginia nursing license; pending licenses accepted
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience required
  • Travel healthcare experience required
  • Epic system experience required
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • BSN preferred
  • Must adhere to float policy and float within scope of practice as needed
