Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work in a 20-bed Intermediate Care Unit at a Level I trauma hospital serving intermediate medical patients
• Patient diagnoses include pulmonary, liver/liver failure, oncology, wounds, urology, general cardiac, general neuro, general renal, diabetic teaching, and wound care
• Patient ratio of 1:5 on all shifts
• At least 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week period
• Guaranteed 3 shifts per 13 weeks; cancelled shifts must be the regular assigned shift length
• Float may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• No on-call required
• Fast-paced unit supporting throughput from the ED, OR, and regional hospital transfers
• Teaching hospital environment; unit frequently hosts student nurses for clinicals
• Patients include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; 2 years preferred
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Charting system experience required; Epic EMR used
• Navy scrubs required
• Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
• Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
• Required skills include: cardiac telemetry, telemetry interpretation and management, ER holding, MS/Tele, neuro stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care and management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, renal transplant, TURP, accessing/managing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, heparin protocols, managing cardiac drips (no titration), PCA, CVA/post TPA care, substance withdrawal, nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oxygen tanks, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
