PCU RN Job in Wheeling, WV

WVU Wheeling Hospital is seeking an RN for their 30-bed Progressive Care Unit, a 12-hour night shift role (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) running three shifts per week. You'll work in an intermediate care setting combining step-down and telemetry functions, with a patient ratio goal of 1:4 (typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6).

Clinical Responsibilities

• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently using Nihon Kohden monitors; Tele Techs are available as backup
• Titrate critical drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
• Manage common diagnoses: chest pain, rule-out MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer patients, pre/post-cath care (radial band management and removal; no sheath pulls), groin checks, and Tikosyn therapy
• Float as needed into Telemetry or Med-Surg with ratios up to 1:6 (occasionally 1:7 in Med-Surg)

Support and Systems

• Respiratory Therapy manages AirVo high flow and BiPAP equipment
• In-house IV team handles all peripheral and central line starts (PICC/Midline available); 24/7 availability
• 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, Intensivist, and residents
• 24/7 in-house Pharmacy with Pyxis dispensing
• EPIC charting system; Sunrise EMR

Scheduling and Requirements

• Night shifts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (4 nights per 4-week schedule)
• Self-scheduling allowed provided unit needs are met; up to 4 requested days off per month
• Must be on unit and ready by 6:45 PM
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Strict attendance policy: 2 cancellations allowed per 13-week contract (tardies and call-offs both count); exceeding this may result in termination
• Navy blue scrubs (top and bottom) with navy jackets required; no hoodies

Commitment and Logistics

• 91-day assignment starting October 26, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,479
• Valid driver's license required at submission; 50-mile radius applies
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission
