PCU Registered Nurse Job in Kansas City, MO

BJC West - Saint Lukes Hospital Plaza is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 24-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will care for intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow, including TURPs, laparoscopic procedures, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, and wound care in a fast-paced environment supporting throughput from the ED and OR.

Schedule & Commitment

• 3x12 night shifts per week
• 91-day travel contract
• Start date: October 19, 2026
• $2,294 weekly pay
• Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments required as needed
• No on-call requirement

Patient Care

• Patient ratio 1:5 (may flex to 1:6 on rare occasions)
• Patient population: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Charting via Epic; navy scrubs

Core Responsibilities

• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Telemetry monitoring and Rapid Response Team coordination
• IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation
• Port access, blood product and central line administration
• PICC and peripheral line management and IV starts
• Heparin protocols, PCA management, CVA care
• Oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face mask, portable tanks)
• Isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vac management
• Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed

Preferred Skills

• Insulin drip titration
• Renal failure and ortho trauma management
• Total joint replacement, surgical drain, and tracheostomy care
• Eye surgery experience

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience with telemetry expertise
• Travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Home address at least 75 miles from facility
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and pharmacy.
