Med Surg RN Job in Salem, VA

Join Lewisgale Medical Center VA as a Med Surg RN on the 5E unit, a 36-bed medical-surgical floor. You will work three 12-hour day shifts per week, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, providing direct patient care in a structured team environment.

Your Role

You will manage a patient ratio of 1:6 and focus on post-operative care, including wound care, dressing changes, and drain management. Your responsibilities include maintaining drains, monitoring patient status, and delivering comprehensive care to patients in recovery and stabilization phases.

Unit Staffing and Support

• Day shift includes 1 clinical coordinator, 6 RNs, 3 techs, and 1 unit secretary
• Night shift includes 1 clinical coordinator, 6 RNs, and 2 techs
• Strong support structure ensures collaborative teamwork

Equipment and Systems

You will work with Baxter IV pumps, Medfusion pumps, and sequential compression devices (SCDs). The unit uses Meditech EMR for documentation and clinical workflow.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required
• Experience with post-operative patients preferred
• Demonstrated competence with dressing changes, wound care, and drain management
• Strong team player mentality and positive attitude
• Solid patient advocacy skills
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment

Dress Code

Navy blue or white scrubs only. Hoodies, pull-overs, and T-shirts are not permitted.

Assignment Details

This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning September 7, 2026. You will earn $2,070 per week.
