Med Surg RN Job in Wheeling, WV

You'll work as a Registered Nurse in a 30-bed acute care Med Surg unit at WVU Wheeling Hospital. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting November 2, 2026, with 3x12-hour night shifts. You'll earn $2,226 weekly.

Your Role

You'll function as a charge RN with patient assignment, managing a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6 to 1:7 patients per shift. You must be comfortable maintaining a 1:7 ratio when census requires it. Patient Care Technicians are available on the unit to support you. Telemetry is monitored remotely by monitor technicians, so you focus on direct patient care and interventions.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Titrate heparin drips based on APTT results
• Manage intermittent BIPAP (no ventilators on this unit)
• Care for patients with common diagnoses: CHF, COPD, cellulitis, rule-out conditions, cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and acute kidney injury

Scheduling & Logistics

Weekends are scheduled as needed. Scheduling is managed through the Qgenda system. You may float to other units as needed based on census; traveling staff are floated first. Charting occurs in EPIC. Wear navy blue scrubs. The cancellation policy allows 2 shifts per 13-week contract.

Requirements

• Current RN license with no licensing hits (must be disclosed at submission)
• BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• NIHSS certification
• BSN is not required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; copy of unexpired driver's license required at submission
