Emergency Department RN Job in South Hill, VA

Join VCU Community Memorial Hospital's 16-bed emergency department as a Registered Nurse. This is a 3x12 night shift position with a 91-day contract starting September 14, 2026. You'll earn $2,188 weekly.

About the Role

You'll care for patients across all age groups—neonates, infants, adolescents, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics—managing a wide range of diagnoses. As a primary stroke center, you'll administer thrombolytics for strokes and STEMIs. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4:1 during night shifts, with 7:1 on days. Every other weekend shift is required, and self-scheduling is available.

Your Responsibilities

• Perform and assist with point-of-care testing including urine pregnancy, strep, gastroccults, hemoccults, and glucose
• Work with ER techs who handle IV starts, lab draws, patient transport, splints, and codes
• Utilize specialized equipment: Philips monitors, Level 1 Infuser, Bair Hugger, and ultrasound machines for IV placement
• Collaborate with dedicated charge nurses focused on patient flow
• Float within scope as needed
• Access interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and lift teams

Requirements

• Valid Virginia or compact state nursing license at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Community hospital experience required
• Epic charting experience required—no exceptions
• Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications
• BSN preferred
• Natural nail policy in effect
