About this role

University of Virginia Medical Center is hiring registered nurses for its 71-bed emergency department. You'll work the night shift on a 3x12 schedule, earning $2,072 weekly, with a 98-week assignment beginning September 28, 2026.

Role Overview

You'll provide emergency care across all age groups—adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics—in a Level I Trauma Center. Your responsibilities include triage, emergency stabilization, and ongoing patient care. You'll manage a patient ratio of 4:5 and work with the Epic charting system. Interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Social Services support your work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience
  • At least 1 year at a Level I trauma facility OR 2 years at a Level II trauma facility
  • Experience caring for pediatric patients (dedicated pediatric ER experience not required)
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required before your start date; you may submit with it pending
  • Valid Virginia nursing license; pending licenses accepted
  • BSN preferred
  • References required with your application

Scheduling Details

Night shift hours vary based on staffing needs. Weekend work is required; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed. You must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays. Time off around Labor Day is not available. You may be asked to float within your scope of practice as needed.

Facility Information

The emergency department treats Level I Trauma cases, Comprehensive Stroke patients, and Chest Pain/STEMI presentations. You'll see approximately 165 patients daily and work with a range of acute care conditions in a busy academic medical center environment.
