ED Registered Nurse Job in Charlottesville, VA

University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Emergency Department. You will work 4x12 night shifts in a 71-bed Level I Trauma Center, caring for approximately 165 daily visits across all age groups—from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Your Role:

• Perform triage and provide emergency care to patients with Level I Trauma, Comprehensive Stroke, Chest Pain (STEMI), and other acute conditions
• Manage a patient ratio of 4:5 across day, night, and weekend shifts
• Document care using the Epic charting system
• Float within your scope of practice as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Social Services

Shift & Schedule:

• Night shifts, 4x12 hours per week (36–48 hours weekly depending on block structure)
• Weekends required; block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Scheduled days vary based on staffing needs
• Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
• Time off around Labor Day cannot be approved

Requirements:

• Current Virginia nursing license (pending licenses accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience
• At least 1 year in a Level I trauma facility OR 2 years in a Level II trauma facility
• Experience with pediatric patients (dedicated pediatric ER experience not required)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• TNCC certification required before start date (may submit with TNCC pending)
• BSN preferred
• References required with submission
