About this role

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Telemetry unit in Wilmington, NC. This is a 91-day contract position offering 4x12 night shifts at $2,560.90 per week, starting September 21, 2026.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care on a med-surg telemetry unit with patient ratios of 1:5–6. Floating within and near the facility is required based on unit needs. You'll work a weekend requirement of 12–16 shifts per contract and must be available for 24 hours of unit-specific orientation plus hospital orientation during week one.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; first-time travelers accepted
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Scrubs: Navy/White
  • Maximum 7 days pre-approved time off; no time off during first week or after booking
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays

Essential Clinical Skills

Telemetry remote monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation, IV insulin protocols, colostomy and feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, heparin, PCA, chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen delivery systems, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac.

Preferred Qualifications

On-unit telemetry monitoring, port access, insulin management, CVA care, surgical drain management, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and experience with Epic charting system.

Patient Population

You will care for adults and geriatric patients with diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, and other typical med-surg conditions.

Facility Support

The unit operates on Pyxis and Epic systems with SBAR communication protocols. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams. Contract staff are assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team roles and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters.
