PCU Registered Nurse Job in Albany, GA

Join Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital's 44-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) as a Registered Nurse on our cardiology stepdown team. This is a travel position offering 3 shifts per week on nights (6:45 PM to 6:45 AM) with an 119-day contract beginning August 31, 2026. You'll earn $2,151.36 per week.

Role Overview

You'll work in a specialized cardiothoracic and cardiovascular stepdown environment with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio. The unit is divided into two focused areas: 4A handles post-operative cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients, while 4B cares for smaller procedures, drip management, and heart failure patients. You may be asked to float to ICU with stepdown-only patients unless you have dedicated ICU experience.

Required Experience and Skills

• Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting
• Current ACLS and BLS (AHA) certifications; NIHSS preferred
• Telemetry expertise, including ability to read and interpret Phillips telemetry strips
• Proficiency managing cardiac drips: Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
• Experience with BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (non-ventilated support)
• Competency with MEDITECH charting system
• Pacer wire removal preferred; training provided if needed

Common Patient Diagnoses

Post-operative CABG, cardiovascular surgery, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomy, stent placement, pacemakers, ablations, AICD implantation, CHF, atrial fibrillation with RVR, and chest tube management.

Schedule and Expectations

Work every other weekend with flexibility for holiday coverage. Three shifts of floor-specific orientation are provided. A 12-hour cancellation requirement applies every 2 weeks. You must reside 75 miles or more from the facility; proof via driver's license is required at submission.

Dress Code

Scrubs in Caribbean Blue. Natural hair color required; no artificial nails, shellac, facial piercings, or visible tattoos.
