PCU Registered Nurse Job in Kearney, NE

You'll work as a registered nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting November 9, 2026, with 3x12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM). You'll earn $2,353 per week.

Unit Overview

The 40-bed PCU serves patients with cardiac medical/surgical conditions, dialysis needs, cancer, vascular disease, sepsis, adult respiratory conditions, stroke, post-stent placement, post-pacemaker placement, and renal failure. Average daily census runs 24 patients. You'll maintain a 1:4–5 nurse-to-patient ratio with nurse aide and patient care tech support at a 1:12 ratio.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Titrate critical drips: Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
• Manage and troubleshoot arterial lines
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Operate high-flow respiratory equipment
• Float to Med-Surg or ICU as needed for PCU-level acuity patients

Staffing & Scheduling

Every other weekend is required. A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries patient assignments. The hospital may cancel up to 3 shifts during assignments shorter than 13 weeks. If placed on call and called back, you must be able to arrive within 30 minutes. Requested time off of 7 days or fewer must be submitted upfront; additional requests will not be approved.

Orientation & Requirements

You'll receive 1 day of unit-specific orientation and must pass a 90%-or-higher open-book exam during that time. Required certifications are ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. A BSN is not required. You'll chart in EPIC. Wear navy blue scrubs; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas. A valid driver's license is required at time of submittal.

Contract Terms

At minimum, you must work 2 holidays within the 91-day contract period. Early contract cancellation by the hospital is allowed up to a specified limit.
