PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - PCU Stepdown

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts with shift times of 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• 6-week scheduling cycle managed by unit schedulers
• 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period (night weekends are Fridays and Saturdays)
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Floating requirements include Med/Surg and all areas of the hospital, including ICU/ED, depending on abilities
• 28-bed PCU unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Care for adult patients including mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke patients who generally arrive through the ER
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, octreotide, insulin, Cardizem, nitro, and maintenance IV medications
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry monitoring
• Specialty equipment includes Code Carts, LUCAS Machines, Hoyer lift, and Sit and Stand
• Charge nurse present on each shift with occasional patient assignments, more common on night shifts
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:14 ratio
• High flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
• First week of orientation is classroom-based, followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
• Pass/fail open book exam during orientation requiring a minimum score of 90% to pass
• Charting system: EPIC
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Valid driver's license required at submittal
• Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
