PCU Registered Nurse Job in Richmond, VA

VCU Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning October 26, 2026, offering 3x12-hour night shifts at $2,372 per week.

Role Overview

You will care for adult and geriatric patient populations in a progressive care setting with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. The unit operates on self-scheduling, and you may receive one holiday off per winter season. Weekend coverage is required, with 10 weekend shifts expected across the contract duration.

Core Responsibilities

• Managing ports, peripheral lines, and PICC lines
• Administering blood products and IV insulin protocols
• Caring for chest tubes, surgical drains, and wound vacs
• Managing feeding tubes and performing phlebotomy
• Providing high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and oxygen therapy
• Monitoring telemetry and interpreting arterial blood gases
• Performing pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure monitoring
• Implementing isolation precautions and infection control measures
• Participating in rapid response and code team activities

Requirements

• Current RN license in Virginia or compact state
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• BLS certification
• EPIC charting experience required
• Proficiency with peripheral nerve block catheters and PCA pumps
• Two references required
• Natural nail policy compliance

Support & Environment

You will have access to interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams. Floating within scope may be required as unit needs dictate.
