PCU Registered Nurse Job in Arlington, VA

Virginia Hospital Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in our Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a 21-bed cardiovascular stepdown unit. You will care for cardiac surgery patients transitioning from intensive care, working 3x12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required.

• Patient Care: Manage a 4:1 patient ratio, providing comprehensive care to post-cardiac surgery, post-cardiac catheterization, and post-cardiac angiogram patients. Monitor cardiac dysrhythmias via telemetry (on-unit and remote monitoring), manage vasoactive and cardiac drips with titration capability, and administer blood products and heparin protocols.
• Clinical Skills: Perform chest tube management using Emerson/PleurEvac systems, central line care, PICC line management, peripheral IV insertion, and phlebotomy. Manage non-invasive airway support including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. Provide tracheostomy care, wound care, wound vac management, and continuous bladder irrigation.
• Team Integration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV specialists, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response teams. Participate in code and rapid response activations as needed.
• Documentation: Chart using Epic system.

Requirements: Active Virginia or Compact nursing license (must be in hand at submission). Minimum 2 years RN experience with strong cardiac telemetry and stepdown background. Demonstrated experience managing chest tubes and dysrhythmias. Community hospital and Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred. ACLS and BLS certification required. Previous charge experience preferred. Adults-only patient population.

Compensation: $2,200 weekly. Assignment begins November 9, 2026.
