PCU Registered Nurse Job in Athens, GA

Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a travel nursing role on the night shift, offering you the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population in a structured, supportive environment.

Role Overview

You will care for adults and geriatric patients in a 32-bed unit with an average daily census of 21. Night shift assignments are 3x12 with patient ratios of 1:3 to 1:4. You'll manage post-operative and acute care patients, interpret cardiac rhythms, and provide specialized nursing in a progressive care setting.

Patient Population & Diagnoses

The unit admits patients from cardiac intensive care, medical-surgical intensive care, acute care floors, and the emergency department. You will care for patients with conditions including post-operative CABG, thoracic and vascular surgeries, respiratory failure, cardiac arrhythmias, DKA, GI bleed, trauma, CVA, seizures, metabolic disorders, renal failure, hypertensive emergency, sepsis, and neurological disorders.

Requirements & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; first-time travelers are welcome
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Telemetry competency exam required
• Proficiency with dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, BiPap, CPAP, and AirVo equipment
• Familiarity with Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR documentation systems

Assignment Details

Duration: 84 days beginning November 2, 2026. You'll wear navy blue scrubs. Every other weekend is required, with three weekend shifts per contract. Floating within the facility and scope of practice is expected. No on-call requirements. Maximum 7 days RTO per contract. Holiday coverage is expected based on major holidays within your assignment period. You'll receive 36 orientation hours.

You'll have access to interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and pharmacy.

Compensation

Weekly pay: $1,916.
