PCU Registered Nurse Job in Roanoke, VA

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a start date of October 19, 2026.

Schedule and Pay

• 3x12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM)
• Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• At least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Weekly pay: $2,220

Unit Details

The PCU serves 25 adult and geriatric patients, including those with stroke, neurology, and general medicine conditions. You will typically care for 1:5 patient ratios with a staffing goal of 1:4. Self-scheduling via Kronos is available, with up to 2 pre-approved time-off requests permitted per contract. The facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period.

Required Experience and Certifications

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience; travel experience preferred
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• EPIC charting system experience
• Neuro PCU experience required

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

You will perform cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation. IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central and peripheral line care are required. You will manage IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine and dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine. Medication administration (no titration of cardiac drips) and respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen, and non-invasive airway management are core duties. Potential procedures include chest tube care, tracheostomy care, and PICC line management, with experience in CPAP and BiPAP. Isolation precautions and telemetry experience across PCU, IMC, and stepdown settings are required. Floating within your skillset to another PCU or medical-surgical unit may occur.

Support Available

Interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response, and pharmacy support are available on site. Remote telemetry monitoring occurs with monitors remaining on the unit and tele sitting implemented for additional coverage.
