PCU Registered Nurse Job in Kansas City, MO

BJC West - Saint Lukes Hospital Plaza is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning October 19, 2026, working three 12-hour night shifts per week at $2,294 weekly.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care in a progressive care setting with a standard patient ratio of 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:6 as needed. This role requires a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and strong ventilator management skills. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Schedule & Expectations

Night shift schedule (3x12) with 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week period, combining Friday, Saturday, and Sunday coverage. No on-call required. Block scheduling is not available. You are guaranteed 3 shifts per 13-week contract period with a maximum of 7 days of RTO (request time off) allowed during the contract. Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required.

Clinical Skills Required

• Cardiac monitoring: dysrhythmia interpretation, telemetry management
• Respiratory: ventilator care, tracheostomy management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation
• IV therapy: peripheral and central line care, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration
• Medications: heparin protocols, cardiac drips (managed and titrated), PCA pumps
• Renal/GU: pre and post-hemodialysis management, renal failure care
• GI: feeding tube care and management
• Neurological: CVA and traumatic brain injury care
• Isolation precautions

Patient Population

You will care for pulmonary stepdown, intermediate care, and high-acuity respiratory patients, including ventilated tracheostomy patients, COPD, and those on CPAP/BiPAP. Exposure to endobronchial valve procedures and advanced respiratory interventions is expected.

Requirements & Details

Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required. Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility. Epic is the charting system. Navy scrubs required. Free parking provided.
