PCU RN Job in Omaha, NE

You'll work as an RN in the Progressive Care Unit at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy, caring for patients requiring intermediate-level care and those stepping down from higher acuity settings. This is a charge nurse role where you rarely take a patient assignment, allowing you to focus on unit coordination and clinical oversight.

• Shift & Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM or 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM), with every other weekend required. No on-call or standby duties.
• Patient Population: You'll care for patients with cardiac and vascular diagnoses including CVAs, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and post-cardiac catheterization patients. The unit supports thoracic, electrophysiology, catheterization lab, and structural heart programs.
• Clinical Responsibilities: Manage a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio (1:3 for post-surgical patients in their first 24 hours). Titrate drips including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, and Cardizem. Read and interpret telemetry strips independently with remote tele tech support available. Manage respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula. Float to same-level and lower-acuity units as needed.
• Support & Resources: Hospitalist and intensivist available 24/7, with cardiology on call after hours. Respiratory therapy staffed 24/7. Nurse aides and patient care techs support you at a 1:18 ratio. EPIC charting system.
• Requirements: RN degree with minimum 1 year experience in this patient population. Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required. BSN not required. Valid driver's license required at submission.
• Onboarding: One to two shifts of unit-specific orientation tailored to your experience level, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam with a minimum 90% score required.
• Unit Standards: Navy blue scrubs required. Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas.

Assignment Details: 91-day contract starting October 26, 2026. Weekly pay: $2,419.
