PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Job Details:

• Position available for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on patient acuity
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call required
• Will float within service line to meet facility needs
• Block scheduling not available
• Maximum of 7 days of requested time off per 13-week contract
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Travel experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Charting system: Epic (experience preferred)
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Care for adult patients in a cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit across two units (PCU and Cardiac Telemetry level)
• Patient population includes heart surgery, transplant, bypass, valve replacement, TAVR, cardiac overflow, pre-op, chest pain, and cath lab patients
• Common procedures include coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), mitral valve repair or replacement (MVR), aortic valve repair or replacement (AVR), aortic aneurysm repair, Maze procedure, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), heart transplant, and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implant
• Required skills include: blood product administration, cardiac telemetry, central line care and management, chest tube management, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, IV drip titration, temporary and permanent pacemaker management, epicardial wire management, PICC line management, pre and post cardiac cath and surgery care, thrombolytic agents, TAVR experience, and ventricular assist device (LVAD/RVAD) experience
• Strong PCU experience with cardiac post-operative patients required, including experience with post-CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR patients
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary
