Respiratory Therapist Job in Chapel Hill, NC

The University of North Carolina Health Care System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist II for a pediatric care role. You will work under department management, applying advanced knowledge in respiratory care to deliver competent patient care across multiple critical areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Airway management, including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care and tube changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations
• Mechanical ventilator management with setup, function verification using specialized modes, and appropriate weaning techniques
• Oxygen therapy and aerosol therapy, including medication delivery and basic bedside pulmonary function testing
• Assessment and treatment of respiratory dysfunction through respiratory care procedures and breathing exercises
• Advanced practice procedures such as UAC, UVC, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring
• ECMO management, including extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory patient support
• Carolina Air Care responsibilities involving transport of pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per UNC Air Care Protocol
• Arterial punctures and standard respiratory care procedures
• Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to other staff members
• Maintain and continuously improve job knowledge and clinical skills

You may be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a 12-hour shift position with an 89-day duration, starting November 9, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,364.
