About this role

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Rapid Response is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Cardiac Telemetry unit in Wilmington, NC. This is a 91-day travel assignment running night shift, 3x12 hours per week (36 hours total), starting September 14, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,043.79.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care on a cardiac telemetry unit serving patients recovering from cardiac procedures and managing cardiac diagnoses. Patient ratios range from 1:4 in surgical step-down settings to 1:5–6 in lower-acuity areas, depending on patient acuity. You will be required to float per unit rotation (not as first-call float) and work four weekend shifts per four-week period on a flexible schedule.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience
  • Travel experience required unless you have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Passing EKG testing prior to start date

Required Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Post-MI and pre/post-cardiac catheterization care
  • Cardiac drip management and titration
  • Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), sheath removal
  • External CPAP/BiPAP and non-invasive airway management

Preferred Skills

  • Arterial line management
  • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Charge nurse experience
  • EPIC charting system experience

Unit Details

You will work with equipment including Doppler ultrasound, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires. Common patient diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valvular disease, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, and peripheral vascular disease. Procedures include CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, mitral clip, LAAO, carotid endarterectomy, and vascular surgeries. Medication management uses Pyxis; communication follows SBAR protocol. Navy scrubs required.

Additional Information

Contract staff are assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team responsibilities and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty situations, or disaster responses. Unit orientation is 24 hours.
