PCU RN Job in Charlottesville, VA

University of Virginia Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a night shift position caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with surgical and trauma-related diagnoses.

Position Details

• Shift: 3x12 nights with variable scheduling
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Patient ratio: 3:1
• Duration: 91 days
• Start date: September 14, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,073.60

Requirements

• Virginia nursing license (pending license accepted)
• ACLS and BLS certification
• 1 year of nursing experience
• Trauma Level I and Level II experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Epic charting system experience required

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

You will manage patients across a range of acuity levels and diagnoses. Required competencies include arterial line management, central line care, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, cardiac telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and vasoactive drip administration. You will also perform wound care and wound vac management, PICC line management, port access and management, blood product administration, epidural analgesia monitoring, and pre- and post-hemodialysis care.

• Manage BiPAP/CPAP and high flow nasal cannula therapy
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation
• Manage continuous bladder irrigation and feeding tubes
• Implement IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols
• Provide spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care
• Respond to rapid response and code team calls as needed
