Telemetry RN Job in Charlottesville, VA

University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Telemetry position on a 27-bed General Medicine Unit in Charlottesville, VA. This is a night shift role with a 98-day duration, starting September 28, 2026.

Shift and Schedule

• 3x12 night shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated

Patient Care

• Patient ratios: 5:1 on nights and weekends
• Care for adult and geriatric patients with respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal conditions
• Common diagnoses: respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis

Required Skills and Experience

• Chest tubes, heparin protocols, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• IV insulin protocols, PCA management, and renal failure management
• Telemetry monitoring, tracheostomy care, and wound care including wound vacs
• Nurse-driven heparin infusions and insulin drips via Glucomander
• Epic experience required
• 1 year of nursing experience required
• Travel experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred

Equipment and Support

• Equipment includes lift systems, HOVER mats, chest tubes, trachs, PCA pumps, bladder scanner, and wound vacs
• Interdisciplinary support: IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary

Requirements

• Current Virginia nursing license; pending licenses accepted
• Must adhere to float policy and float within scope of practice
• BSN preferred

Compensation

• Weekly pay: $2,072
