PCU RN Job in Wheeling, WV

WVU Wheeling Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning November 16, 2026, with weekly pay of $2,263.

Shift Details

• 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Report to the unit by 6:45 AM
• Weekend shifts required: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are all considered weekends, with 4 weekend day shifts per 4-week schedule
• Self-scheduling permitted provided unit needs are met; 4 requested days off per month allowed

The Unit

• 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit with 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms
• Target patient ratios 1:4; typically running 1:5 and occasionally 1:6
• Float assignments to telemetry or med-surg may occur with ratios up to 1:6, occasionally 1:7 in med-surg

Clinical Expectations

• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently using Nihon Kohden monitors
• Titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
• Common patient diagnoses: chest pain, rule-out MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, pre/post caths, groin checks, and Tikosyn therapy
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• BSN not required

Support Services

• Respiratory Therapy manages all respiratory equipment
• In-house IV team handles all IV starts 24/7
• Hospitalist, intensivist, and residents present 24/7
• 24/7 in-house pharmacy with Pyxis
• Charting: EPIC; EMR: Sunrise

Requirements

• Valid, unexpired driver's license must be submitted with application
• 50-mile radius residency rule applies
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed at submission
• Navy blue scrubs (top and bottom) with navy scrub jacket required; no hoodies
• Strict attendance policy: 2 occurrences of tardiness or call-offs within 13 weeks may result in termination
